About Lawrence Printing
F. Ellett Lawrence Came to Greenwood in January of 1919 and organized Lawrence Printing Company with the help of the late Calhoun Wilson, then VP of the Wilson Banking Co., and the late W.R. Humphrey. Several years later, Mr. Lawrence bought all the outstanding stock. His idea that a commercial printing plant stressing quality work could be a success in this area proved to be a valid one.
Lawrence Printing Co enjoyed modest growth during the first years and soon added office supplies and furniture as a service to its customers. In 1938, Lawrence added three junior salesman and 2,500 square feet of floor space to their Market Street location, bringing their total to approximately 7500 square feet.
In the early 1940's, the company became the first printer in Mississippi to use one-time carbon for manifold snap-out forms. In 1949, Mr. Lawrence's nephew, G. Ellett Lawrence, joined the business as a sales representative.
Work began in the summer of 1958 on a new building at the corner of West Market and Cotton Streets. Considerable new equipment was installed to accommodate the fast growing sales for jerk-out and continuous feed business forms. Lawrence also added equipment to do magnetic ink imprinting to provide MICR encoded forms to banks all across the country. Lawrence was again the first company in the state to install such equipment.
G. Ellett Lawrence became president of the company in 1971. For the next 15 years, rapid growth continued. In October 1986, Lawrence moved into a new 50,000 square foot building at 400 Stribling Ave, off Highway 82 West. Lawrence Printing Co continues to operate from this location in the present day.
Today Lawrence Printing Co remains one of the largest printers in the State and has continued to change with the market demands.
